BIG BIG MEADOW
New practice of big meadow on madison bowl
Starting from the big meadow area in The Shenandoah National Park. The project intends to design a garden in response to Big Meadows that inspires people to visit by interpreting the plant community, dynamic space, grounds, and management of its environment.
The design focus on a specific scenery in Big Meadow that was created by four main species. Documenting the physical and mental experiences at the Big Meadow at first, including the height and color of the species as well as the growing condition, the project then brings these to the site and mockup the planting strategies to help work on the final planting strategies.
The design uses Big Bluestem as a medium species to create a path with different walking experiences. Because of the lifecycle of the Big Bluestem, which is short in the early winter and will grow to 8-10ft in the Autumn, the design can create interesting interaction between people and the big bluestem and bring multiple scenarios when passing through the trail. Moreover, combined with other plant species, not only does height become an intriguing parameter, but color and viewshed also bring more fun to the path.
