In the past, the Sound of the Bell and Drum Tower would ring every day for people to determine the time. The sound became a common memory for Xi’an city residents and a part of history that should be valued and remembered. However, the Bell and Drum Tower sound in Xi’an has been forgotten because of urban expansion. The design intends to explore a way to commemorate the lost sound through this memorial landscape. Because of the existing traffic and commercial noise, it is impossible to bring the bell and drum sound back to the site. As a result, the design intends to visualize the sound, transforming the sound of the bell and drum into a specific landform. A new memorial landart starts to display sound and tell the hidden story of this Bell and Drum Tower.

In the design, The images of bell and drum sound waves are extracted and transformed into three-dimensional terrain by the origami model test. Then, the bell and drum terrain modules are combined while the effect of superposition and gradual change, and vertical change are studied through model tests. Finally, the final design scheme is formed by inserting crowd activities into the terrain.
